Several weeks ago, Will and I began to create our own workouts for Friday morning. As “P.E. with Joe” was ending, we still wanted to work out but not be in the TV room every time. So, we decided to go outside for our workout every Friday. Monday and Wednesday morning, we watch YouTube videos of The Body Coach and Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, I run.
I learned much from watching and doing the workouts from the YouTuber Joe Wicks who is the personality of The Body Coach. I found his workouts incredibly doable and manageable. I have struggled for years to find upper-body and full-body workouts that truly appealed to me, his variation is perfect for me and the time I have available. Most days we do 40 seconds of work and 20 seconds of rest, but I am moving back to 30 seconds with a rest of 30 seconds. This gives me the opportunity to go all out for 30 seconds and have a little extra to catch my breath. We typically just do ten exercises, rest for two minutes, and repeat the ten.
One Friday, we did all of our workouts with a Soccer ball. These are our ten exercises for the soccer day:
Dribble in Place
Lateral Lunge
Planks
Russian Twist
Push-ups
Marching and Catching
Ball Squats and Catch
Overhead Lifts
Ball Burpee
Dribble Sprints
Our outside workouts go well until it is raining. But on one day, we trained outside anyway! I chose the exercises to be mostly standing. I had a mat for push-ups, mountain climbers and planks.
Run in Place
Push-Ups
Rear Lunge
Boxing Punches
Hand Plank
Squats
Front Jumping Jacks
Slow-motion Mountain Climbers
Overhead Hand Clap
Ice Skater
Yesterday, I woke up to rain again. Since I had already planned a sequence, we decided to workout in the sun room.
Elbow to Knee
Push-ups
Squats
Jumping Jacks
Mount Climbers
Rear lunges
Single-leg Crunches
Power Squats
Planks
Lateral Sprints
We are certainly enjoying out time working out. By looking at the three lists, you can tell that these sequences are remarkably simple. However, they provide me with the workout I need. I am more fit than I ever have been. Down the road, I may add a third time around or make some other variations, but right now I am happy just the way they are and every day I am looking forward to the next workout.
