This past week was the coldest week so far here in Korea. Nearly every morning the temperatures were in the single digits and the ice that fell never fully thawed during the day.
Saturday night, the snow began to fall once again. As it snowed most of the afternoon, it because to pile up around Camp Red Cloud.
I woke up Sunday morning to a Winter Wonderland and beautiful walk to the office to get ready for the busy week ahead.
Tuesday was a wonderful day of inspiration as we hosted two events in our area with Dave Roever as the guest speaker. Mr. Roever was a Vietnam veteran who was injured during a firefight and is a living testimony of resilience. I first heard his testimony as it was broadcast on Focus on the Family in the late 1980’s. Throughout Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, he has spoken to probably thousands of Soldiers encouraging them to be resilient as well. It was very meaningful, to me, to have the opportunity to meet him and talk with him for some time.
On Thursday, the 2ID/RUCD welcomed several Chaplains from the Republic of Korea Army as they joined us for Unit Ministry Team training. This training, and others like it, give both chaplaincies a working knowledge of the great work our counterparts are doing as well as prepare us to work together more and more in the future.
In celebration of Lunar New Year, we were off from work. I went shopping for a brief time. It always amazes me to look at these tall buildings with the store names written on the outside. It makes sense that the stores would want to advertise their location. However, as an English speaker, I do not know what any of it means. Being from the country, I am also amazed to see shops stacked up on top of each other in the cities.
