In the 1990s, I had a strong desire to get an Amateur Radio License. It was not until I was a pastor when I had the opportunity to earn my Technician License and went on the air as KG4RFL. I love to be on Amateur Radio—but sometimes it becomes challenging on the 2-meter repeaters because I have to build an entire new network of repeaters and over the air contacts as I move around. My love for Amateur Radio remains, however. So, what I really would love to do is to earn my General Class Amateur Radio License and be able to talk to the world one day.
A General Class Amateur Radio would offer me the opportunity to work all of the VHF and UHF radio frequencies. It would also give me the authorization to work the 10 through 160-meter bands. These bands are the bands that I could talk long distances. This is also the license needed to perform many disaster relief functions. Somehow, I would have to construct an antenna in my back yard to pull that off. That would need to be an “after the Army” event—but I could get my license while I am waiting for that time.
I would love to further my love for radio one day by earning the General Class Amateur Radio License—maybe one day I will be able to work on it.
