Reading through the Secret Origin series is a very interesting endeavor for me, as I still feel new to the comic book scene. Geoff Johns is helping me out by taking his time explaining the back ground of Green Lantern. Before collecting comic books, I always thought Green Lantern was cool—but never knew much else. This series is helping me gain an understanding of the character and the background as I grow this portion of my comic book collection.
Green Lantern 31 explores the actions that happen right as Green Lantern puts on the ring—how he gets training to learn how to use the ring and to control the powers that it contains. Meanwhile, the underlying story back on earth begins to develop.
My biggest complaint about this issue is that it was too short. Even when I picked it up it felt thin—and after I finished reading I questioned “what is the point?” It is a good third issue—it develops the story just a little more, but it is lacking in substance.
