I forgot how wonderful Hélène Grimaud’s playing of the Bach: Piano Pieces were to listen to.
As with many other things, (my life was really turned upside down) I haven’t sat and listened to music for roughly six months. So, when I selected this title in my iPod this evening—I was thrilled at the beauty of it.
Helene Grimaud’s delicate mastery of the piano moved me to stop what I was doing—and even change the subject of what I was planning to write about to share with you my excitement for this album. I first bought her performance of Beethoven’s Concerto Number 5 which led me to purchase another album from her. I wasn’t disappointed at all.
As I sit and listen—the music draws me in to listen more intently. So often, classical music is used as “background noise”—even in my office. This is a work that needs to be listened to intently. To let it simply run in the background would be a shame. Her use of dynamics and feeling clearly shine through each measure of the piece that is played.
Among the millions of things on my to-do list, I need to carve out time to listen even more intently to the wonderful music that is available more than ever before on line. To not carve out the time to listen more intently would be a shame.
