I spent some time reading the JLA books. #0 and #1. I really enjoy seeing the “traditional” art of the characters. I know that sounds odd, but to me the art is growing more traditional in the DC universe. By traditional, I mean that there is somewhat less detail and more solid colors. Artists have gotten so good at mimicking reality that sometimes it is good to see something that looks like a comic book, rather than photographs.Â
The comic book look adds to the experience–the books are not supposed to mirror reality–it’s a comic book! Too many times, in modern entertainment we try to make everything realistic–which is the number one reason for vulgarity in Hollywood. But entertainment should be an escape from reality, that is why it is entertaining.Â
I really like the art that Ed Benes has put in these books.
