I received an email this week from my Sunday School Teacher outlining what he will be teaching about this week. He is a wonderful teacher and in the few weeks of being in his class I have already taken away many new or refreshed ideas. Interestingly enough, I am in an Army school right now that promises to be challenging academically. I heard that the rule of thumb is to spend one hour preparing for every hour spent in class. The question I thought of when I received his email is how much will I prepare for this class?
For many, it is common to arrive at Sunday School ready to endure, but not ready to learn. We arrive to be talked to but we give little thought in preparing ourselves to actually learn. This may be one of the biggest reasons why we may never learn anything in the first place. Sunday School is a great opportunity to meet friends and get to know the people of the church, but it is also a primary means to disciple each other through Bible Study. If I am to spend an hour preparing for each hour in class of Military Planning and Tactics, shouldn’t I have the same respect for God’s Word?
Think about this as you approach Sunday morning. How will you prepare for Sunday School? You may say; “Well, your teacher isn’t as good as mine.” Maybe not. But, don’t you think that you would be a better student if you arrived prepared? Let’s take Sunday School to the next level this Sunday.
