I went to the comic book shop today. I had a really good day! I completed buying an arc that I want to review on this blog in the future, I caught up with my Catwoman collection, got a “What if? #1, and, of course, I picked up my pull list. The so much to read so little time!
On my way home, I drive an hour, I thought about what could make a better comic shop–the shop is already very good, but I haven’t been to a shop yet that does the one thing that would make it really good.
That thing would be to sell new comics already in a wrapper. Why not? OK, they maybe cutting costs but I remember in business school something about “value added” products. I would really appreciate it. The books would always look clean and the stores would not have to worry about them being read in the store as much. I think that is a good idea.
Maybe I’m just lazy.

I always thought this was common practice.
When I did do a regular pull list at a comic shop (Salem Or, in the days of old, when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came in large size self-destructing newsprint) they did bag and board the pulls. That place is now a pizza parlor.
Currently I pick up most of my comics from the guy that sells them used (and nearly new) on 32nd between 6th and 7th ave (near Penn Station).
I love the fact that they all come in bags with boards. I could do without the tape, but C’est la vie.
“Wotthehell wotthehell I gotta keep dancing cause life’s too short” as my favorite cartoon cat of old would say. Times change I guess.

I agree with you completely. It’s a value added service that I would pay for too and they would make a lot more money doing it IMO.
Anyway, I hope this is great minds thinking alike!
