I heard several years ago that Kodak had stopped producing their iconic Kodachrome film. The film transparency was a rich format for shooting 35mm photos. I once heard that National Geographic used Kodachrome for their magazine photos because of the quality of pictures the format would produce. I guess in today vernacular—the transparency film was the HD film of its age.
While there remain some transparency film brands available, each roll is quite expensive. I would love to be able to shoot this type of film one day. There is hope that the film trend will continue and the prices will slowly drop. Maybe one day, I’ll be able to use this type of film.
In my basement, I have several stacks of old slide boxes from when my father used to use the Kodachrome film. He used it during his deployment to Vietnam and while my brothers, sister, and I grew up. Sometimes I enjoy dragging out the projector and looking at those old photos. Sometimes, I take the time to convert them to digital images. These photo remain as rich as they were because they have been taken care of through the years and protected.
I admit that I have a love for film photography. When I have more time to spend on photography that is what I enjoy shooting. But, the top dream is to shoot the transparency film very well and capture an image that takes advantage of all the film can deliver.
