Archie Comics contributed a Little Archie Comic Book to Free Comic Book Day this year.
This little comic book was a delight to read. I actually enjoyed it more than I did the Manga last night, where I fell asleep reading–but didn’t mention. The audience for the book is clelar, but that didn’t make the comic book any less enjoyable. I did. Sometimes, I would like to add Archie Comics to my pull list, but I will wait until my children are older. (They are both two as of this writing.)
I typically don’t enjoy the kid versions of comic books or cartoon. I grew up in the days of “Scrappy Doo”, “Muppet Babies,” and “Tiny Toons”. I got tired of everything being turned into babies. I did like this version. I think that the “Little Archie” concept is good, but the characters need to stop refering to little Archie…as “Little Archie”. Archie Comics would be better served if they just take the Smallville concept and make Little Archie a boyhood version of Big Archie. They could simply keep the Little Archie title, just skip the obvious understanding that the little kid they call Archie…is “Little Archie”.
