Â
I received my second combat patch last night.
The unit held it’s “Combat Patch Ceremony” in the gravel courtyard in front of the the Battalion TOC.
For those who don’t understand what this is–and I’m sure plenty don’t because this is a new “tradition” that has been started during OIF–this is what it all means.
The combat patch is an authorized patch that goes on the right arm signifying that you have served in a combat zone for more that 30 days. The ceremony is a way to give the honor to the Soldiers who are putting it on–some times multiple times. I think it means most to the guys who are receiveing their patch for the first time, because it is the moment that you are truly accepted as a combat veteran and you are allowed the credibility that comes with being a veteran.
This is a very important time in the life of these Soldiers and I was proud to be apart of the ceremony by giving the prayer.
