I remember that I have written several posts about pencils over the last six months, which tells me that I like pencils. I like them for many reasons the ability to erase, the sharpness of the point, the feeling of the pencil in my hand, and the idea that I am a better writer when I use a pencil than not are all reasons that I like pencils. Then, I find out that today, 28MAR17, is Pencil Day.
I never knew there was a “Pencil Day” but it is a good day to celebrate with a blog post. For most of my writing, I use my computer either it is my personal computer, where I write my blog, or the work computer where I write several emails a day. Only when I am being very intentional do I take the opportunity to use a pencil. I think that is one big reason why I enjoy using a pencil when I write, because when I use one, it means that I am taking extra time to truly get the most of my writing—not simply getting something out the door. I cannot do this with everything I write, but the pencil truly does force me to slow down. It also forces me to edit. Pencils then give me the opportunity to make it right—sometimes by erasing and making the correction on the spot. I learned to write this way, slow and steady, so I am always refreshed when I take time to write with a pencil.
Happy Pencil Day Everyone!
