As I sit in my room in Korea, I realize that I have not done a personal update in some time. So, I thought this would be a great time to do so.
Throughout this year, I was running on the expectation that I would be returning to Fort Jackson, South Carolina for my next assignment. This was exciting to me because Monica and I grew up in South Carolina, our families are there, and it would be nice to PCS to a place we are familiar with. I was also very excited about being able to train Chaplains there. This all changed about a month ago when I was contacted from my assignments manager that there needed to be a change. The Army needed me to return to Fort Bliss instead and become the Chaplain for the US Army Sergeant Major Academy.
While it was a shock to the system, we could not be happier with the change. Yes, we will miss seeing our family—but to be assigned to El Paso again, for us, is like lightning striking twice. We never thought it was possible or, if it was, a long shot. We cannot wait to return to the “Sun City” of El Paso, Texas. We fell in love with this area while we were there the first time and some of our happiest times in the Army have taken place there.
I look forward to being able to get back out and spend some more time outdoors and being able to focus on spending time with my family. I also look forward to the job. As the Chaplain of the Sergeant Major Academy, I am going to be able to minister to those who lead Soldiers around the world. There I will be able to focus on my Pastoral and Preaching skills, more than I have done over the last two years, I am looking forward to the experience.
But, I cannot lie. I am also looking forward to the food.
