Early in July, I planted our flowers rather late in the season. I had just arrived to our Kansas home and wanted to decorate the front of the house at the very least. I planted impatiens in the front flowerbed.
I went to Home Depot and bought what was left and got a mixture of colors. I planted the flowers about three or four inches apart and began to water daily. After about a week, the flowers were slowly growing but not filling up the area that I had hoped that they would fill. I just made sure that they were watered and hoped for the best. The soil, where they are planted, is not very good—so I thought that I was stuck with what I had.
During a conversation with my mother a month later, she mentioned that my father used “Miracle-Gro Shake n’ Feed All Purpose Plant Food.” I remembered how nice his flowers always were and went out the next day to pick up a bottle at the PX. Following the directions, I sprinkle the plant food all along the flowerbed. After a week, I began to see the flowers become fuller. Now, the flowers provide a good thick blanket of color along the base of my front porch. They have definitely added a nice welcoming touch to our front porch and are still continuing to blooming into late September.
As the begins to set later and later, I am beginning to think about next year. What ever I do, Mircle-Gro Shake ‘n Feed will definitely be in my plans.
