Mark 10, tells the story of a man named Bartimaeus, a blind man who was healed of his blindness and when Jesus called he jumped to his feet.
“And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” 50 And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus.” (Mark 10:46-50, ESV)
When the Battalion Commander enters the room, the room stands to attention and everyone is ready to hear what the boss has to say.
In the story of the blind man Bartimaeus, we see that Bartimaeus springs to his feet when Jesus calls. Seeing his faith, Jesus heals the man of his blindness.
How often do we spring to our feet when Jesus calls?
Most of the time we drag our feet or find some excuse. He need to be more like Bartimaeus and “spring to our feet” when Jesus calls.
What is Jesus calling you to do today? Are you jumping at the opportunity to serve or are you hiding from the possibility that you may to do more than you already are?
It is time that we stand up and be counted, paying respect to Christ by answering His call.
