On a spontaneous trip to Seoul, this morning, I ran into a promotional display of the new Star Wars movie, “Rogue One”. This display featured Chinese Artwork inspired by the Star Wars movies. Through a joint venture between Lotte Department Store and Disney, the display had life size statues of popular Star Wars characters and a small gallery of artwork on display.
Walking through the seventh floor hallway at the Lotte Department Store, I found a display of Darth Vader, along with R2D2, the Inquisitor (from Star Wars Rebels), and a Storm Trooper.
The outside of the small gallery displayed a print of one of the main characters, Chirrut Imwe, of the upcoming movie. Chirrut Imwe is a warrior monk who rigorously honed his body through intense physical and mental discipline.
Inside the gallery, the display featured a set of vases with the Chinese art paintings of Darth Vader and the AT-ACT walker. Meticulously drawn the vases were beautifully encased in a glass display box.
Along the walls of the gallery were several painting of different scenes inspired by the movie. It was exciting to see a glimpse of some of the ideas that will be given life in the movie.
One the first floor gallery was a show case of very detailed “Imperial Death Troopers“.
These were very cool to see up close. The details on the statues were also very meticulous and life like…and impressive.
It was exciting to see up close artwork and statues from the upcoming Star Wars story “Rogue One”. I was definitely lucky to be able to stumble upon this display. It was nice that Disney took the time to create an authentic re-creation of the features for the Chinese Artwork Showcase.
