This afternoon, I had to update a form that I haven’t update in about 10 years. As I filled out the questions and updated the computer data base, I had a moment when I realized how long ago that was.
I had to add my two youngest children to the database and update my address from an address that was six locations ago. It was a reminder to me how time flies.
I am reminded that three months ago, I was walking through The Omaha Zoo with my family during the last week before I left, and, six months ago, I was on a romantic date with Monica to “First Taste”, a restaurant that specialized in Vinegars and Olive Oils, in Leavenworth, Kansas.
As I updated my data in the database, I couldn’t help but taking a moment, first, to laugh that it had been so long, but also to reflect. I was able to get a peek at my old life. A life that I barely remember, not because I wanted to forget, but one that I have grown away from. Life has kept moving since those days. And, they continue to move.
I look at my life in the data base and I see a younger father or twin toddlers that I was just getting to know. I look in the mirror and see and older father with twin eleven-year-olds, a nine-year-old, and a six-year-old. I see a family that has grown through deployment, changing duty stations, and fun times in between the stress.
Don’t miss out on the blessings of today. Each day is precious and life moves on. Every event is precious, so make the most of each one.

I occasionally open an old online account to find very out of date profile information. It helps me to reflect on what was and what now is. Your reminder to enjoy the blessings of today is essential if we want to reflect on good times in the years ahead.
