9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. (Ecc 4:9 ESV)
Many times we talk about being a team or not being a lone ranger. Sometimes we just give it lip service. But, the truth is that the Bible, in Ecclesiastes 4:9, teaches us that two are better than one.
Life is a team sport. In the verse that follows Ecclesiastes 4:9 says that if one falls the other can pick up the slack. But, this first says something interesting: it says that the two “have a good reward for their toil.”
Will they accomplish their task, yes. But it is more than that—they will be rewarded by having a team mate to accomplish the goal with them. One thing that we are seeing in ministry circles and everywhere else, for that matter, is that people are lonely. People want to have someone to do life with.
So, when the Bible says Two are better than one” it is not only talking about efficiency.
We need to get better at taking care of the people we work with, and when we do, we will have a good reward.
