After diving in to gaming more than ever in 2017, I thought I would take a moment to share with you the setup I am running here in Korea. So, using a play out of the play book of Amateur Radio, let me tell you about my “shack”.
The first, and of course most important, component is the console itself. I am running a basic PlayStation 4; Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 console. There is nothing different about the Call of Duty console, except that it had Call of Duty in the package and roped me into the Call of Duty world early on. I have 500GB hard drive with two basic PlayStation controllers. Nothing terribly special, but exactly what I am looking for and does everything I want it to do. I am comfortable not downloading a lot of games, so the 500GB (vs the 1TB) hard drive is perfectly fine with me and how I play.
The second component of my setup are my headphones. I received a pair of KOTION EACH G2000 Over-ear Gaming Headphones for Christmas and I don’t think I have really taken them off since then (except for going to work!). While it is convenient to have a mic, and I may use it more one do, I don’t use the microphone very much for a while. I expect that this will come into play as I move up in the ranks, but, frankly, there is not many people to talk to and not much to talk about at my level. What is wonderful, however, is the headset itself. Through that headset, I can hear what is going around me and wear the action is happening on the map. I am also able to stream in Spotify through the headset which makes longer practice sessions very enjoyable.
My last component is the docking station. I also was gifted a DOUBI PS4 Vertical Stand with Cooling Fan Charger. This vertical stand and fan cooler is a big help in keeping my PS4 cool and ready to play. Many times, inside the cabinet, the console could not breathe and began to get hot while playing for a long time. Now because of the vertical station, along with the fans, there is no long a risk of overheating. The docking station also includes spots for controller recharging, as well as USB ports to charge controllers that do not fit into the controller spots and a place to charge other electronics as well. This is a simple piece, which many times goes unnoticed, but potentially could save my system from disaster.
I play purely recreational video games. I hope to develop as a player but I’m happy just to have a hobby in gaming to allow me to play. My set up is a great start for me to begin in gaming. I don’t even see me needing more in the future. I hope you enjoyed seeing my set up and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me in the comments below.
