I am spending some time this spring to work on my video gaming skills. I’m hoping to spend about an hour on most days playing and developing. This seems easy at first, but it is actually harder than it sounds. While I am taking the time to play, I am also reading articles and watching videos on how to play better. Last night, while I was thumbing through some Reddit feeds on the subject, I quickly read one comment and then moved along. The comment has begun to haunt me since I read it. The comment said “the way to learn how to play better is to put in the time, grinding away.”
After just playing for about six or seven months, I cannot (and don’t) expect to be competitive. I have to put in the time. I have to play and play and play.
This is the same as any other thing that is worthwhile.
One area that many people struggle with is having a daily prayer life. This is one area that grinding away will certainly pay off. All of Hell wants to prevent us from spending time with God. We should not expect it to be easy. It takes weeks, months, and years of repeated times showing up to pray. God will honor that and we will grow through that experience. But, we cannot expect that we will be developing a quality prayer life, unless we are putting in the time, grinding away.
It isn’t easy. It isn’t glamorous. It may even sound like a waste of time.
But, over time, we will begin to see the fruit of our prayers. We will be able to see lives changed through our prayers…including our own.
