James Ellis Andrews was my grand father. He was born to James Mathew Andrews and Annie Grace (Shepherd) Andrews on April 16, 1899, and died on April 3, 1993. He was married to Annie Findlay Smith on November 18, 1920. He lived in Pensacola, Florida all of his life. To be more specific, he lived in Escambia County, Florida all of his life.
He lived a good life. My father remembers that he rented out boats, but that was after the 1940 census. There is much more to be learned about him, but from the records we can see that after his marriage in 1920, he became a carpenter. He owned is own home, which was worth $4500, but was only worth $2000 in 1940. In the 1940 census, his occupation is listed as “Janitor” at the (Pensacola) Navel Air Station.
