As I walked along the streets of Uijeongbu on my way to a coffee shop, I stopped at a corner for the light to change and allow me to cross the street. The streets are always very busy, especially the main roads and there is fast moving traffic forcing everyone to wait at the light. The light where I waited is right in front of a police station and is on a traffic island in the middle of the busy intersection of five different roars meeting one spot. There is much going on there and many reasons to keep alert.
.
Standing and waiting for the light, there was a commotion occurring behind me. I turned to see a someone running across an adjoining street to get to the traffic island I was on. She was pushing a stroller, approaching me from behind, and talking loudly to her baby in the stroller. She was quite excited. Once she made it to the island, the lady took her baby out of the stroller and began waving at a nearby police car that had just pulled out onto the street.
I looked inside to see the policemen a little stunned at the attention. I looked a little closer to see the baby’s grandmother riding along in the passenger seat. The police car pulled away sounding its siren as it went.
As my light turned green, I began to cross. I looked over, one more time, as the police car went only a block up the street, then making a U-turn to come back for another pass.
