Waiting on The Lord is one of the hardest things that we can do in our fast-paced world. But, we must wait and wait patiently.
Monica and I had a discussion last week that went something like this:
Me: “I will not wait for the barber. I’m sorry—if I have to wait, I’ll just get my hair cut when I get back to Korea. I don’t wait for barbers.”
Monica: “Are you impatient?”
Me: “No, I just don’t have time to sit around and wait for a barber!”
Monica (laughing): “I think that is the very definition of impatient.”
In our world, we seem to do everything fast. We take our lunches to go. We use the microwave because we don’t want to wait for the food to cook normally. We pump our gas ourselves because we don’t want to wait on someone else to pump it. (Wouldn’t it be nice to have full service gas stations again?)
We want the answers to our questions right now. Every time.
We now have our customer service representatives on an online chat any time we need them.
Waiting on God is different.
It is different because the answers come from God. God has an eternity to develop his answer and his answers have perfect timing. He will answer us when HE is ready to provide them. He is God.
Our need is to stop and wait. And we are to wait patiently.
The Bible says;
“Wait patiently for the lord . Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the lord.” (Psalms 27:14, NLT)
