I had an interesting question asked on the comments of my last post. The person asked;  (1) “What do you mean, take around the world? Do you travel the world for comic stuff?”  (2) “Can i ask, what started your passion for comics?”
First of all, I will be taking my comics around the world because I am in the Army and soon to be moving to another country. So, it is not as glamorous as you may have thought.
The second question is where I want to spend some time. I’ve answered the “How I got started in Comics” portion in another post, so I don’t feel the need to rewrite that story. But, I like the question of “what started my passion for comics?” I feel like this is a different question all together.
The fantasy and the heroics have always caught my attention. I’m a person that leaves the theater a changed person after watching an action movie, especially when the movie is as character driven as superhero movies are.  Comics affect me the same way. Comics add a freshness to my life. The stories end with the good guys winning and the bad guys losing. I’ve always liked that. It feels good to read about heroes, even when the story drags into several issues. Therefore this was a core interest.
Growing up, there was little acces to comics and, to be honest, because I didn’t have much access I didn’t know what I was missing. But, the desire was always there. I made excuses. Too expensive. Too unfinished. Too geeky. Too childish. Too…Â
Then, I began to read comics a couple of years ago to fill my time. I have found my passion grow. Each story that I read is important. Each book is important. As I gather more and more issues I examine them and treasure them. The more I read the more I want to read. The more I collect, the more I want to collect. I have to have parameter to control my spending. However, I talk about it because I have found that managing a comic collection with stricter rules help me to enjoy the hobby more. If I’m just collecting comic books–any old comic will do. If I am collecting Superman, Batman, Teen Titans and Green Lantern, I really don’t want Spiderman. I care more about the comics when I buy a back issue because I want to fill a series, rather than just fill my closet.
My passion for comics is rooted in the fact that I now have a hobby that I enjoy. Too ask why and to take the answer too seriously defeats the purpose. I spend my days, and sometimes my nights talking to people, the least I want to do is to not take that baggage home with me. My hobby gives me an outlook, where the good always win and the bad always lose,
